CNC Machining at Hemlock Engineering Ltd

In order to produce small and complicated parts of any machine, without relying on a machinist’s skills alone, high quality and reliable machineries are needed. These special parts are very important to be as precise as possible because they play a great role in whichever industry they belong to. Some examples of things or sectors that make use of these very intricate components are watch makers, builders of aircraft, toys and many other similar industries.

The world of manufacturing has greatly changed from the time that CNC Machining began to upgrade its technology. Before, in order to produce superb output, a machinist’s skill is depended upon. Today, with modern programming and more efficient machineries, the possibilities are endless.

  • Almost all CNC machines can operate for very long hours without stopping, thus multiplying the number of production as compared to the previous manual work.

  • CNC machines can perform with great precision. They can produce a particular component without compromising its quality and uniformity. The difficulties that are usually encountered with manual labour are no longer an issue with these machineries.

  • There is no more concern in terms of number of output, as CNC machines are able to mass produce any intricate part at any given time. With the right programming and coding, a client’s quota can be reached without breaking a sweat.

All About Sliding Head Machines

What does a Sliding Head Machine do?

A slidinghead turning is a type of machining that specialises in very small components, with diameter size that is usually smaller than 32 mm. These small components are manufactured on a large scale and very productively.

Appearance

A sliding head machine is a big machine that:
·         Has a number of axes
·         Has both front end and back end machining
·         Has its own set of turning tools
·         Has both drilling tools and other similar tools

How does a Sliding Head Machine Work?

A sliding head machine works through this method:
·         The material slides through what is called a guide bush.

·         It is then rotated through a second spindle, which in turn pushes it through the guide bush.

The benefits of using a Sliding Head Machine

Accuracy – using a sliding head machine ensures that that parts you produce are precise, with superb finish. No need to rely on the skills of a machinist, as the machine itself is already programmed to produce excellent products without worrying about uniformity. Its work is as accurate as possible and totally reliable.

Speed – having a machine to operate continuously makes sure that your profit is secured. Aside from this, you can also count on meeting deadlines without having to think about work quality and quantity. The speed of work is very important in any business, and having a fast and steady production of high quality products is crucial.

Quality – the quality of work is always on top of the list. With a sliding head machine, the quality of work becomes unquestionable. Its program is set to produce only the finest parts without missing the smallest detail. In addition to this, the quality of work with a sliding head machine remains consistent all throughout.

Easy to operate – an advantage of using a sliding head machine is that it is very easy to program and operate. It can also operate without any supervision, making it highly ideal for mass production of industrial parts.

A sliding head machine was originally designed to automatically produce very intricate parts of a watch. Even though a sliding head machine was meant to contribute greatly to the watch industry, it has proven to be indispensable when it comes to many other applications in the industrial field.

What Are The Advantages of CNC Milling?

CNC Milling is a technique that is used on machines, programmed with special codes, to perform specific movements that allow it to cut materials like metal, steel and plastic and produce intricate designs. Because of this advancement in technology, CNC machines became very popular and are used widely in the manufacturing industry today.

CNC Milling has a number of advantages and these are:

Precision - precision is also a big factor why CNC Milling had a huge impact on the manufacturing industry. Before its time, everything relied to the skills of the machinist. The quality of work with CNC Milling has become more accurate and 3D designs were even made possible. In addition to this, the number of rejects dwindled dramatically.

Automated Cooling - one of the advantages of  CNC Milling is automated cooling. There are no more worries about having machines overheat or cause damages.

Speed - it is obvious that programmed machines work way faster than having a machinist operate it manually. On average, it is about 5 times faster than the traditional style. With this innovation, the industry has been more productive than never before.

Repeated Use - perhaps one of the best advantages of CNC Milling is that the programs can be stored and therefore be used over and over again. This only means that a metal could be cut the exact same way multiple times without worrying about uniformity and quality.

CNC Milling machines can operate 24 hours without stopping and these could be handled by people who don't have to be skilled at all. These things are equal to bigger profit for the industry of manufacturing - no need to hire highly-skilled machinists and more production time. With the invention of CNC Milling, the manufacturing industry will never be the same again.

What is CNC Milling?

CNC or Computer Numerical Control Milling is considered as the most common form of CNC. Basically, it is the extension of Numerically Controlled Milling or NC. As it turned out, it is an invention that forever changed the manufacturing industry.

It usually has two main functions: Drilling and Turning. The number of axes a CNC mill has is usually the basis for classifying one. Axes have different labels based on their movement. 'X' and 'Y' labels are used for horizontal movements, whereas 'Z' is used for vertical movement.
