What is CNC Milling?

CNC or Computer Numerical Control Milling is considered as the most common form of CNC. Basically, it is the extension of Numerically Controlled Milling or NC. As it turned out, it is an invention that forever changed the manufacturing industry.

It usually has two main functions: Drilling and Turning. The number of axes a CNC mill has is usually the basis for classifying one. Axes have different labels based on their movement. 'X' and 'Y' labels are used for horizontal movements, whereas 'Z' is used for vertical movement.
Usually, a standard CNC milling machine has a total of 4 axes, but there are also machines that only have 2. Some machines with 3 axes are the ones capable of producing a 3D effect or design.

At Hemlock Engineering, Machining is our major expertise and we are proud to offer the following:
Traditionally, a set of commands known as G-codes are used to program CNC milling machines. It is an alphanumeric code that was first created with the intention of helping the development of helicopter blades.

Generally, CNC Milling machines are used to make accurate and detailed cuts or designs from various materials like steel, plastic and aluminum. It can be used to make simple and sophisticated things alike. From making simple parts of a child's toy to complex parts of  aerospace applications, CNC Milling machines are highly dependable.
